Inland Championships Rutland 9-10th
November, 2002
Fresh from the Worlds in Ontario, Andrea Brewster is our new National Champion. With the Worlds team boats still in containers somewhere, not many of our ladies were able to compete. As a result it was a chance for the men to shine, with two thirds of the fleet being male! In the end it was a battle between Andrea Brewster and Chris Gill for 1st place, with Chris just losing out on count back. Lizzie Vickers finished 3rd.
There was a good turnout for the final weekend of the Holt RYA National Ranking Series at Warsash Sailing Club over the weekend, with 16 Europes competing. Debbie Winstanley again led the fleet home, with Andrea Brewster 2nd and Chris Gill 3rd. |

Twelve Europes competed in
the latest round of the Holt RYA National Ranking Series. Saturday saw
two races sailed in a light Northerly breeze of 5-10 knots and shifty
conditions. Sunday dawned with a cold northerly breeze and gusts of up
to 22 knots. Three further races were sailed, Close racing saw Kirsty Bonar
win the final race and with it the event. Debbie

Eleven Europes turned up for the Pwllheli National Ranking event and what turned out to be a frustrating weekend. Saturday brought fierce gale force winds and choppy seas, causing the committee to abandon racing for the day. Sunday brought the opposite problem with the wind dying to nothing and racing again being abandoned. As the National Ranking Table didn't change the top two non-lottery funded sailors as it stands from end 2001 will receive the RYA Grants. Andrea Brewster and Laura Baldwin achieve this award for Hyeres Regatta. Congratulations!
Travellers Events Travellers Trophy 2002
A modest turnout of Europes attended the annual open at Highcliffe Sailing Club on Saturday 17th August, combined with a laser open, with all 3 races to count. James Eynon won the event with 3 bullets, Ian Stow was 2nd and Chris Hughes 3rd.
A disappointing turnout, with only 4 competing in the
Open (15 attended last year). Chris Gill (Portishead
SC) won the event, with Liz McDonald 2nd,
Alan Bird 3rd and Tim
Morris 4th (all South Cerney SC). Travellers Trophy 2001

Some severe weather at Kiel week this year and no sailing for the Europes on day 4. However, there was sailing on the final day. Kirsty, Bryony and Laura all posted DNCs for the last few races, but for the record their final positions were Bryony 43rd (Gold), Kirsty 45th (Gold) and Laura 46th (Silver). Full results.

Only one Brit represented GBR in the Barcelona Olympic Classes Regatta this year, Laura Baldwin from Southampton finished 11th overall. Very pleased to have beaten her lasts years position of second from last! 44 Europe Women raced in excellent conditions.
Sea breezes of 12-18 knots provided a great fair series. The venue moved
from inside the Olympic Port to the beach just adjacent to it. This made
launching and recovery far easier than last year. A huge under ground
hall with bars, free food and drink, a large screen showing clips from
the days racing & inspiring music created a great atmosphere. |
