Chew Valley 2008

Chew Valley Lakes 29 June 2008

The three Europes that contested the Chew Valley Southern Travelller event on 29th June were treated to a day of grey skies, Force 3 to 4 winds with gusts and plenty of shifts.

Chris Gill leads the field at Chew Valley

Chris Gill (GBR352), Andy Harris (GBR356) and Keith Miller (GBR275)

A figure of eight course was set with a short beat, reach, long beat and run. Chris Gill made a clean start to the first race with Andy Harris and Keith Miller following.  Chris steadily pulled away from the chasing pair to win by about a minute from Andy.

After lunch race two looked to be a repeat of race one until Andy's toestraps broke on the second beat causing an unexpected swim.  Keith took second place.  The finishing order was the same for race three.

One battle that persisted throughout the day was between current national champion Chris and 1981 national champion Nigel Snedker now sailing a Solo that started just ahead of the Europes.  He is still quick!

Thanks to Chew Valley and especially to race officer Tom Offer for a well run event.
