It can only be said that there was a very poor turnout for this year's AGM held during the Inlands at Rutland's SC. Indeed we only just had enough members to form a quorum - well if you weren't there then you cannot moan about not having your say.

As a quick note for everyone, here are some of the main points discussed and agreed.

Chairman's Report

Events generally have been well supported, but there is much more work to be done to get more Europe sailors to come to these events, and build up our membership. Restronguet SC has started a fleet of Europes, and the association intends to support in anyway it can, new fleets like this.

The Nationals at Helensburgh were well run and thankyou to those who travelled so far to support it.

Liaison with the RYA has been ongoing to try and persuade them to make the Europe a youth class, but they are reluctant to change their policy to accommodate us. We shall keep trying.

The rib has been purchased and I have agreed to look after this temporarily at home in Swindon, which is central for most members to collect/deliver from.

Thanks given to our outgoing Secretary, Robert Laurie, for his efforts over the past four years.

Secretary's Report

This has been our 25th Anniversary year, and hopefully we shall have many more to come.

We have ended the year with 65 members, of which 15 are new to the class. Overall there has been a continued decrease in membership during the last four years, and hopefully a new committee with new ideas can reverse this.

Although there is a hard core of sailors attending events, this only represents 30% membership - why are 70% not attending? Is there a misperception that they are not good enough to race - we need to dispel this.

Chris Gill won this year's Travellers Trophy and was presented with the shield.

Treasurers Report

Another sound year with sound decisions made on how to minimize Admin costs in order to keep membership fees down, but at the same time support the work undertaken for them. A small net profit was made as compared to previous year's loss.

The Association now has reasonable reserves in its bank to cover the running costs of the rib, and continue to subsidize training days for association members.

Election of Shirley Robertson to Honorary Member

A proposal from the Chairman and seconded by the Secretary to elect Shirley as our first ever lifetime Honorary Member, was approved by all class members, as recognition to our Olympic Champion.
